Essay Questions – How is the trust of the youth in institutions affect their ability to work constructively on matters affecting their community or country?

The trust in institutions, such as churches, police, courts, or local politicians is vital to the engagement of youth in matters affecting society. The youths have changing views on matters linked to religious institutions, which still play a huge role in the development of policies and guidelines for society (World Bank, 2012). However, aspects, such as police violence, corruption, or injustice, erode this trust, compelling the youth to participate in revolutions aimed at changing the status quo. Hence, they have largely labeled a threat to society based on this rebellious nature. This situation has similarities and differences when viewed from the Global South and the Global North. For the Global North, there is reduced trust in religious institutions compared to the Global South. However, the political system and the courts are least favored in the Global South compared to the Global North. These instances present an opportunity to examine the relationship between active citizenship among the youth and trust in institutions.
