After reading Foster Chapter 1 (only use the content from chapter 1 for this activity), create a collage on a Powerpoint/ Document that includes the following:

1. Title of the stream of living water and Foster’s key statement or phrase describing it.
2. A Picture representing the tradition and your explanation of why it does so.  Basically, find an image that represents the stream.  Whatever image you choose.   Your presentation should follow this format:

2)Foster Ch. 5 Biblical Concepts of Social Justice(1page)

WHAT –

Define and describe Foster’s social justice tradition and the Biblical concepts related to this tradition.

WHY –

We all come from different walks of life and yet there are particular characteristics and features that are essential and identifiable to each walk of life.   The same can be said about following Jesus.  There are spiritual traditions not necessarily church or denomination based, but Bible-based ways of following Jesus that tend to emphasize particular aspects of Jesus.  Those emphases are identifiable and represent lifestyles, patterns of behavior, and commitments to Christ in your daily lives.  It is important to realize that there are spiritual traditions that may differ from our own and yet our own and those that we differ from are all ways of following Christ.  In this section, our hope is that you will be able to self-identify as well as appreciate the various traditions.  It will also be important to apply this typology to the local and even global church setting.

POST :

For this writing prompt: Focus your attention on the concept of social justice in the book of Amos and the historical character of Amos in chapter 5 of Foster. Relate the story of Amos to the concept of justice in the Bible which is found in the section: “Defining Social Justice” of chapter 5. What are the key concepts of justice understood Biblically and how do they relate to Amos’ contextual challenge? Are these challenges to justice still ongoing issues today? If so, how or why?

3) Foster Ch. 3: Holiness Tradition (1page)

WHAT –

Compare and contrast two figures from Foster’s Holiness tradition.

WHY –

Both Bonhoeffer and Palmer embodied the key characteristics of the Holiness tradition and yet their lives represent completely different ministries.

WHAT –

Compare and contrast the Incarnational tradition to at least one other tradition.

WHY –

As you identify the Incarnational tradition take inventory of your own approach to spirituality.  It is important to be able to identify and even self-identify as you come to a better understanding of the traditions.  Be mindful of the various connections to your own walk with God.

POST :

Compare and contrast the strengths and weaknesses of the Incarnational Tradition to one of the following: Holiness or Social Justice.   In the end, do you find yourself identifying with one of these traditions?  If so, which one?
