Sweat Novel Critique

After reading Zora Neale Hurston’s, “Sweat,” I would like for you to write a reader response critique about the short story. You will be using all of the terms used in the Elements of Literature Part I & II videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9E6JJojgCew&feature=emb_title https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7c_SjKcGbE&feature=emb_title So, here is what you should answer in your paper: What is the tone and mood of the story? As you know from the video, tone and mood are two separate elements. What point of view is the story written in? How do you know? Give an example from the story. What is the setting? How do you know? Give an example from the story. Consider the plot line of setting, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. Write out the plot line, giving examples from the story. What is the theme in the story? There can be more than one theme, but you will only need to provide one for this assignment. Remember, a theme is not just one word. One word is merely a topic. Take the word you are thinking of and use it in a complete sentence. Remember, a theme is a universal idea to which everyone can relate. Avoid cliches! A cliche is a phrase or opinion that is overused and betrays a lack of original thought. What kind of character is Delia? Syke? Bertha? How do you know? Use SPECIFIC quotes from the story to support your ideas. Is there irony in this story? What is it? Did you like the story? If so, why? If not, why? Use quotes as support. REQUIREMENTS: This should be written in essay format. All bullet points should be covered, but in which order you put them in is up to you. MLA format required You must have in-text citations and a Work Cited page…refer to OWL at Purdue as to how to create the Work Cited page over the link I sent you to the story Must be written in 3rd person point of view…even the part stating whether you liked the story or not. 600 word count This will be counted as an essay. If any of these requirements are not met, the grade of a zero will be recorded for this assignment.
