The timing of treatment of OCD, PTSD and SAD using Art Therapy and CBT.

he document describes the timing of treatment (How long does it take to treat of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD) using Art Therapy.
Add also and how long does it take to treat (timing as well like the written document) these anxiety disorders using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Only the timing do not explain what it is.
Create a contrast between this two. Which one is more effective regarding the timing of treatment for these anxiety disorders? Ex contrast: “Art Therapy takes up to 6-8 months to treat PTSD gradually. However, CBT takes up to 1 year. This shows that Art Therapy is more effective regarding the timing of treatment for PTSD” or the way around “CBT takes less time to treat OCD rather than Art Therapy”. Give examples and support it please.
If it’s necessary add as well extra lines based how long does it take (timing) for Art Therapy to treat PTSD, SAD and OCD in order to have a contrast between Art Therapy and CBT.
Make necessary changes on the document in order to create contrast, balance and consistency within the document but keep the structure as it is (these paragraphs are the most important parts of the Thesis).
Please do not use statistics
Add min 8 references.
Please bold the new lines that would be added.
Please expand the opinion at the end (last paragraph) in contrast of these two – (Art Therapy and CBT in relation to the timing of treating the above three anxiety disorders. Which one is more effective?

Art therapy is a gradual and distributive process due to its focus on creative and personalised treatment approaches. The timing of this technique for those experiencing mental health disorders is vital to its effectiveness. A study by Regev and Cohen-Yatviz (2018) capturing the time it takes to treat patients with mental health conditions such as anxiety disorders using Art Therapy established that a twelve-session covering a full year and a period of eight to fifteen weeks was associated with positive changes in the patients. The study further identified that in both groups, a follow-up ranging from 3 months to 6 months was vital in establishing the progress to initiate new methods or reinforce the current ones for effective results. With Art Therapy, treating individuals with OCD, PTSD and SAD disorder is a gradual and personalised process separated across weeks, with follow-ups to capture changes in symptoms and functioning.

Treating PTSD using art therapy is a continuous process that eliminates its symptoms in various stages. Studies focus on the time it takes to realise development in the PTSD symptoms using art therapy. A study by Campbell, Decker, Kruk and Deaver (2016) examined the period taken to treat PTSD for an experimental group depicting trauma-related feelings and emotions within a circle, establishing that after a month, the participants recorded greater reductions in PTSD symptoms, apart from depressive and anxiety symptoms. The research presented the healing process starting with the introductory phase and covers eight 75 minute sessions spread across weeks. A similar study by Jones, Drass, and Kamal (2019) shows that the group and individual Art Therapy sessions can be delivered in three levels for effective results, which include the three weeks of introductory group art therapy that include the techniques to use by the patients, six weeks where the patient is allowed to individualised externalisation and processing of emotional regulation, insight, trauma, among others, and additional weeks of participation in community arts projects. In addition, the authors find that these levels separate the healing process, giving individuals the counter each symptom, such as increasing self-expression, self-awareness, building coping skills, reconnection, and re-integration with self and others. Hence, with PTSD, the efficacy of Art Therapy can be seen after one month of participating in individual and group therapy and extends to the long-term.

Treating SAD can vary in the timeline due to the diverse subtypes employed. The timeline for compassion-focused therapy can differ from mindfulness and mentalisation-based treatments (Abbing et al., 2019). However, Abbing et al. (2019) performed a randomised control trial using Art Therapy, whereby the findings established that a 10-12 session treatment plan spanning over three months has positive effects on SAD as the patients’ experience reduction in anxiety, an increase in subjective quality of life and an improvement in accessibility of emotion regulation strategies. Maher (2013) examines the effectiveness of Art Therapy and art-in-psychotherapy, noting that participants could start expressing themselves fully after participating in the treatment plan for four weeks. In this period, the patient can express the trauma causing their anxiety and cope with the repressive thoughts. Hence, an analysis of the average period it takes to start experiencing positive symptoms for SAD patients is from 1 month, starting with self-expression spanning three months. In this period, the patients can start interacting in small groups as they can manage the manifestations and the traumatic events. The timeline for treating SAD depends on the approach utilised by the practitioner, with advancements observed during the first month for all subtypes.

The varied symptoms of OCD mean that Art Therapy can take a longer time to realise the desired changes. For OCD, Art Therapy is combined with traditional forms to allow patients to heal at their pace (Manjula and Sudhir, 2019). According to Perelman School of Medicine (n.d), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is in 15-20 individual sessions in about an hour and a half. This therapeutic method is combined with Art Therapy to minimise and eliminate the compulsions and rituals associated with the illness. The patients must gradually come to terms with these triggers and conquer them in the process. For the patients who cannot adapt to the ERP combined with Art Therapy, an 8-week program where Art Therapy is combined with mindful-based therapy was shown to reduce OCD symptoms. Hence, for OCD, Art Therapy is a gradual process that is effective when combined with behavioural therapies.

As an overall I believe that the timeline for treating OCD, SAD, and PTSD with the use of Art Therapy varies, with the efficacy depending on how fast the individual can express themselves emotionally and identify their fears and trauma. As we saw above, for PTSD and SAD patients, the positive symptoms start after a month follow-up, but the treatment is retained until the patient eliminates all the triggers. However, for OCD patients, the process is gradual and extensive, with its effectiveness realised when integrated with other behavioural therapies. Regardless of the differences in timeline, each session seeks to solve a specific issue causing the anxiety disorder.  According to Vittis (interview, 2021, Appendix C, p.?), Themistokleous (interview, 2021, Appendix D, p.?) and Ioannou (interview, 2021, Appendix F, p.?) agree that there is not a specific time limit of treating these anxiety disorders using Art Therapy. However, they also underpin that this mental health disorders is generally a personalised process, whereby each individual heals at their pace due to the differing extent of trauma.
